Chinese driver Zhou Guanyu will stay with the Alfa Romeo team for the second season in 2023.
After leaving Formula 2, the 23-year-old impressed team director Frederic Vasseur with his work ethic in his first season.
Vasseur declared: “One of the biggest shocks of our season was how quickly he became used to Formula 1.
Everyone on the team likes his personality and attitude, and he is a lovely man.
Added him: “He had the humility to seek knowledge and learn, as well as the understanding to use it to win race after race.
“He will be able to rely on this experience next season, and I am certain he can make further progress as we continue to build our squad.”
Zhou expressed his “happiness and gratitude” for being kept on.
The complex effort the team has put in since the beginning of the year is only the first step toward where we want to be next season, he added. “There is more that I want to accomplish in this sport and with the team,” he said.
Although there is still much to learn and grow into, I am confident in our work and eagerly anticipating the next chapter of our shared experience.
With six races left in the season, Zhou has had a solid first campaign, contributing six of the 52 points the team has amassed to move them up to sixth in the constructors’ standings.
He qualified slightly slower than his teammate, former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas, by an average of under 0.4 seconds per lap.
