The Russian military’s “fierce onslaught” in the eastern Donetsk area was thwarted on Sunday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky said that a military unit from Chop in western Ukraine had carried out the operation, although he did not specify the location of the conflict.
In his midnight talk, Zelensky said, “today they ceased the furious offensive activities of the enemy.” The Russian assault was stopped.

The president said that Ukraine’s “exchange fund” had been filled, which meant that Russian personnel had been captured. The areas around the towns of Bakhmut and Avdiivka have seen the heaviest fighting in the Donetsk region.
