West Ham defeated Silkeborg to keep their perfect record of victories in Europe this year, securing a spot in the round of 16 of the Europa Conference League.
The Hammers qualified with one game, thanks to Manuel Lanzini’s penalty following Nicolai Larsen’s mistake in bringing down Michail Antonio.
The semifinalist teams from the previous season’s Europa League dominated, with Spain’s Pablo Fornals and Algeria’s Said Benrahma coming close to increasing their advantage over the Danish guests.
Alphonse Areola, the West Ham goalkeeper, had to make a superb stop to deny Soren Tengstedt in the second half.
