Police said on Wednesday that Indianapolis resident Varun Manish Chheda, a student at Purdue University, had discovered dead in McCutcheon Hall on the western end of the campus.
According to the school’s police head, according to NBC News, another university student detained on a murder accusation on Wednesday.
According to Purdue University Authorities Chief Lesley Wiete, Ji Min “Jimmy” Sha, a junior cybersecurity major and a foreign student from Korea, contacted 911 at roughly 12:45 am on Wednesday to inform police of the fatality.
The call’s specifics weren’t made public. But, according to the authorities, the event occurred in a room on McCutcheon Hall’s ground level.
Chheda was a student at the university studying data science.
According to early autopsy findings, Chheda died of “several sharp force traumatic injuries,” and the cause of death was murder.
According to Fox News, Chief Wiete stated she thought the assault was “senseless” and “unprovoked.”
Arunabh Sinha, a friend from Chheda’s early years, told NBC News that on Tuesday night when Chheda was online gaming and chatting with pals, they unexpectedly heard screams.
Sinha’s pals said they heard the assault but didn’t know what occurred that night even though they weren’t playing with him. They learned of his passing on Wednesday morning.
Sha, 22, arrested shortly after the 911 call, according to Wiete, and transported to the police station for more investigation.
According to authorities, Chheda’s killing marks Purdue’s first on-campus murder in more than eight years.
