Six Children Killed in Sri Lanka Ferry Accident.
At least six schoolchildren drowned in a ferry accident in northeastern Sri Lanka. At least three more were missing after a boat with students on board capsized, police said Tuesday. The Navy divers searched for the children.
Eleven people were reportedly taken to the hospital. The incident occurred near Kinniya, the coastal location about 260 kilometers northeast of the capital Colombo.
According to initial investigations, the ferry in the island nation south of India was overloaded and was not approved for passenger transport. Initially, there was no information on the number of people on board.
