Russia calls Truss “catastrophically ignorant”: On Thursday, the Russian foreign ministry said that Liz Truss was a disgrace as a prime minister and that she would remember for her “catastrophic illiteracy.” However, they also said that they were happy about her resignation.
According to a post on social media by a spokesperson for the foreign ministry. Maria Zakharova, “Britain has never had such a disgrace of a prime minister.”
On Twitter, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev talked about the British tabloid Daily Star’s days-long Livestream that asked if Truss’s bad leadership would last longer than a head of lettuce. Bye, bye @trussliz, congratulations to lettuce.”
State television in Russia enthusiastically and extensively covered Truss’ resignation.
A guest on “Time Will Tell” said Truss had “Stupidity, Arrogance, and Belligerence,” which British politics need.
Moscow has criticized Truss since she travelled to Ukraine in February as part of a failed Western push to thwart a Russian incursion.
Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, brought up illiteracy. This seems to reference Truss’s trip as the British foreign minister.
She then mistook two Russian regions for Ukraine in a meeting with Sergei Lavrov, triggering Russian media criticism.
Russian officials disliked Truss as premier from the start and enjoyed her mistakes. When Truss was chosen in September, Lavrov lambasted her for being unwilling to compromise and questioned how the British leader could pretend to be unclear of Macron’s standing as a “friend or opponent” of France.
Zakharova also mocked Truss’ photo shoot in Estonia last year. When she rode on a tank wearing a flak jacket and helmet to see British troops.
Before Russia attacked Ukraine, the 2018 poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal in Salisbury had lowered Moscow-London ties to their lowest point in decades.
