Rory McIlroy successfully defended his CJ Cup title in South Carolina, propelling him back to the top of the global rankings for the first time in more than two years.
At Congaree Golf Club, the Northern Irishman won by one stroke after shooting a four-under 67 to wrap up the competition on 17 under.
Kurt Kitayama, an American, shot 67 on Sunday and briefly tied Rory McIlroy with a birdie on the 12th hole.
But McIlroy also shot three successive birdies to draw ahead.
After capturing his 23rd PGA Tour victory, an emotional McIlroy stated, “It means a lot.”

“I’ve put so much effort into getting myself back to this position over the last 12 months. I have the most fun ever playing this game.
“I genuinely like the game of golf, and over the last 12 months, it has been evident when I go out and play with that enthusiasm. It feels fantastic.
