Pregnant woman shot to death while unloading gifts from her baby shower.

A pregnant woman was fatally shot while unloading gifts from her car from her baby shower, and the district attorney has said the person responsible will likely face two counts of murder.

Jessica Covington, 32, was shot 11 in the head and belly outside her home in Philadelphia’s Lawncrest neighborhood on Saturday. The shooting occurred in the 6100 block of Palmetto Street around 8:30 p.m.

Covington was transported to the Einstein Medical Center, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.

“ I mean, the person who did this couldn’t be more of a coward, ” said Philadelphia Deputy Police Commissioner Christine Coulter.

No weapons were recovered from the crime scene.

Police reportedly questioned a suspect in connection with the Covington murder on Monday, but no arrests or charges were made that day.

At a news conference Monday, Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said Covington’s murder made him feel “sick.” The culprit “most likely” will face two murder charges, one for Covington and one for his unborn baby, Krasner said.

Krasner also praised the cops for “working non-stop and doing an amazing job on this case.”

The Covington murder comes as the Pennsylvania city homicide figures close to 500. The city has 491 homicide victims so far this year, a 13% increase from 436 last year.

“Children are shot, unborn children are shot, what is the city doing about it?” Coulter told the television station.

‘The city as a whole is doing what we can. We cannot stop people who intend to shoot someone.

“When I look at this situation, it seems like someone was pointing it out and looking for it.”

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced a $ 50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

“This news is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking,” he tweeted.
