Noem formally launches reelection campaign.

The Governor of South Dakota. Kristi Noem (R) formally announced her bid for 2022 re-election on Friday afternoon.

Noem announced her career through a campaign video posted on YouTube.

“Together we are setting an example for the nation,” said Noem. “And we will ensure that the next generation of South Dakotans can grow up happy and free.”


The Republican governor, who is the only person to have announced her candidacy for governor of South Dakota so far, enters her reelection campaign with more than $ 10 million in her war chest.

During her time as governor during the pandemic, the governor of South Dakota touted her approach to COVID-19. She has been staunchly opposed to imposing restrictions on businesses or issuing a mask mandate across the state during the pandemic.

He attended his state’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August along with hundreds of thousands of motorcyclists and criticized other Republican governors for issuing mask mandates this summer when the delta variant emerged in the US.

Noem’s announcement for re-election comes amid controversy surrounding a meeting at the governor’s home with two South Dakota officials and his daughter Kassidy Peters who has raised questions about conflicts of interest.

Republican lawmakers asked the two officials to testify about whether that meeting had anything to do with their daughter’s application to become a real estate appraiser.
