Newcastle United’s stellar start to the season continues with a fantastic victory against Tottenham, moving them up to fourth in the Premier League standings.
After clashing with Hugo Lloris, they continued despite the controversy, with Callum Wilson scoring on a superb lob from beyond the area.
The second goal before halftime wasn’t contentious, but it was given after a protracted video assistance referee (VAR) examination for a foul and handball.
Sean Longstaff intercepted a lousy clearance by Lloris before Miguel Almiron evaded one defender, raced around another and blasted under the Spurs goalie for his fifth league goal in five games.

Harry Kane’s close-range low header gave Spurs a goal back after a lengthy VAR review for offside, but Newcastle managed to hold on to earn the victory.
Newcastle has yet to be in the top four of the standings with 12 games played since April 2012, but Tottenham has already lost their last two and faces relegation.
They got off to a good start as Son Heung-min, and Harry Kane were both stopped by the host team’s goalkeeper Nick Pope.
Spurs struggled as the weather worsened with thunder and lightning in the air, and in the end, they had few complaints about the result.
