The chairman of the House select committee investigating January 6, 2021, said on Tuesday that the panel would have a hearing next week.

The Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson said the hearing would start at 1 p.m. ET on September 28.

The committee has not publicly announced the hearing, but it will be the panel’s last before it issues its final report, which is anticipated before the end of the year.

“I can say that this hearing, at this moment, is the last unless anything new occurs. However, things do happen, so he said it’s not set in stone.”

Thompson said that the panel had chosen a subject for the hearing but did not specify what it would be.

However, he said the topic would be one the committee has not looked into before.

He said, “We have a lot of video of what happened that we haven’t utilized. In addition, significant witness evidence that we hadn’t previously used in proceedings was provided. So, therefore, this is a chance to use some of that information.”

The panel has not yet determined if there would be witnesses, but the chairman promised the committee would decide whether there will be witnesses “shortly.”

The hearing will be presided over by me, and each committee member will participate, according to Thompson.
