Former aide to Prince Charles resigns from charity in honors cash pay case.

LONDON (AP) – A former senior adviser to Prince Charles has resigned as CEO of the heir to the throne’s charitable foundation after allegations he offered to help a wealthy Saudi businessman who made a large donation to obtain knighthood and British citizenship.

The Prince Foundation said Thursday night that Michael Fawcett had resigned.

The Charles Clarence House office said it would no longer use the services of Fawcett or his party planning company, Premier Model.

Fawcett, Charles’s former valet, temporarily resigned from the charity position in September and an independent investigation was launched after the Sunday Times newspaper reported the allegations.

His resignation comes after the Mail on Sunday published a 2017 letter in which Fawcett reportedly wrote that he was willing to apply for the honorary knighthood of businessman Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz and endorse his Citizenship application in response to “latest and anticipated support” for charity.

Mahfouz has denied wrongdoing.

The Prince’s Foundation said when the allegations surfaced that it took them seriously and “is committed to the highest ethical standards.”

Charles is the president of the foundation, but he does not participate in its government or in its daily activities.
