Chris Christie Explains Why He Will Run Against Trump With A Dwight Eisenhower Ding.
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (right) said Monday that he is not afraid to run for the 2024 presidential race, even if Donald Trump is involved.
Christie, during an interview with “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah, said that he was “certainly” considering another run for the White House and said that Trump was not exactly Dwight Eisenhower. Other potential Republican candidates have hinted that they will not run if Trump chooses to do so.
“If you think you are the best person to be president of the United States, why does it matter who else is running?” Christie asked. “For me, it’s almost disqualifying to say, ‘I’ll give in to someone else.’ We are not talking about Dwight Eisenhower here. ”
Elsewhere in the interview, Christie urged Republicans to talk about the future rather than dwell on the past as their top 2016 Republican rival and longtime friend Trump.
“No Republican should be talking about yesterday,” he said. “We lost, they kicked our butt. We lost the House, the Senate, and the White House in two years. The only other time that happened to the Republicans in our entire existence since Lincoln was Herbert Hoover, not something you really want to go back to. We don’t call that the good old days, Trevor. ”
Noah said he expected Christie, who is promoting her new book “Republican Rescue,” to be published for two reasons.
“One, because you make things interesting,” he said. “And two, because you are one of the few people on that stage who is going to say something real to Donald Trump.”
