Britney Spears says she hopes her story will bring about change in a ‘corrupt system’.

Britney Spears has detailed how she wants to move on now that she has been released from her guardianship.

In a two-minute clip posted to Twitter on Tuesday, the pop star said he enjoyed small freedoms since the restrictive legal agreement was dissolved on Friday. He had controlled his life for more than 13 years.

She said she wanted her story to make a difference for people like her who are suffering under a “corrupt system” and thanked supporters of the Free Britney movement for fighting for their freedom when “my voice was silenced and threatened for so long.”

“I’m just honestly grateful for each day, and being able to have my car keys and being able to be independent, and feel like a woman, and have an ATM card, see cash for the first time, be able to buy candles,” said the singer. , who will turn 40 on December 2.

“I am not here to be a victim. … I am here to advocate for people with real disabilities and real illnesses, ”he added. “I am a very strong woman. So I can only imagine what the system has done to those people. … Hopefully my story will have an impact and make some changes to the corrupt system. ”

Spears’ case has drawn international attention to guardianships, often applied by family members to adults with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, or cognitive impairments such as dementia.

An estimated 1.3 million adults in the United States are controlled by guardians or wards in a system that advocates have described as conducive to abuse and financial exploitation.

Spears hinted in her caption that she might be ready for one of Oprah Winfrey’s classic and intimate interviews.

Representatives for the talk show host did not immediately return requests for comment.

As for her supporters of the Free Britney movement, “you guys are great,” Spears said, thanking them for raising public awareness of her situation.

“Honestly, I think you guys saved my life,” he said.

Spears was placed under guardianship following a series of mental health crises in the mid-2000s, which included two involuntary hospitalizations. She was silent for years about the arrangement, which was largely controlled by her father, Jamie Spears.

However, following a vocal outcry from the #FreeBritney social media movement, a New York Times documentary, and a series of highly publicized court proceedings this year, Spears revealed she was deeply unhappy with her treatment, detailing the disturbing lack of control that had on his body, life, and finances, and sought to free herself from it.
