An Earthquake Kills Two triggers landslides in Guatemala

Guatemala City: A magnitude 6.2 hit southwest Guatemala early on Wednesday morning. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported it killed two people collapsed roofs, causing landslides.

The quake struck at a depth of 96km (60 miles) at its epicenter, which was 16 km to the east to the east of Tiquisate, Guatemala, EMSC stated.

Exquisite is located in a predominantly poor area on the Central American nation’s coastal planes. It is bordered by vast palm oil plantations, which export their products to the United States.

Guatemala’s disaster agency, called the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED), pegged the earthquake as having an intensity of 6.8.

At 8:15 a.m. in the local hour, officials had announced two deaths: one woman from the town of Mixco in the Western suburb within the capital city and a man from the city of highland, Quetzaltenango. Both of them died from heart attacks, the authorities claimed.

Photos shared by the agency’s social media accounts showed fallen trees and rocks blocking routes after the earthquake, including Antigua. 

This city was colonial-loved by tourists.

The initial earthquake was followed by two more aftershocks larger than 4. as per EMSC.
