1 person dead, 1 in hospital after a car left Hutchinson River Parkway and entered a Bronx home.
EASTCHESTER– One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a car crashed into a home in the Eastchester neighborhood of The Bronx.
A black Mercedes-Benz was traveling southbound on I-95 and left the highway at a high rate of speed, according to police.
That’s when the driver lost control.
The car went flying off the exit ramp, went through a row of bushes and landed 50 feet away slamming into a house on Pelham Bay Park West.
“I was like this is a movie what’s going on,” said a witness.
The man driving the vehicle was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
A woman in the passenger seat was wearing a seat belt and only suffered a broken leg.
“She was just crying,” a witness said. “She got out of the car and she was crying.”
The house the car hit is in a small neighborhood near the Westchester County line.
The exit ramp connects the south side of I-95 with the southbound lanes of Hutchinson River Avenue.
Neighbors say it’s not the first time a car has lost control on the ramp and gone flying into nearby bushes.
Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
But researchers say one thing is clear: If the driver had been wearing a seatbelt, he very likely could have survived.
